Brigada Eskwela 2011

The Department of Education shall conduct this year’s Brigada Eskwela known also as the National Schools Maintenance Week on May 23-28, 2011 where volunteers help school personnel in their respective areas to spruce up classrooms and school premises. Brigada Eskwela is a school maintenance program that engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, effort and resources in ensuring that public school facilities are set in time for the forthcoming school opening. I had a chance to participate in a Brigada Eskwela when my sister was in high school. The parents/guardians of the students contributed time and money and skills to make the classroom more conducive to learning. I remember that we donated money to buy paints, curtains and electric fans and some parents did the work. It was tiring but fun and we did it willingly. My kids are all enrolled at private schools and they do not have this kind of program because we are already paying for all of this with the amount of tuition fees an d miscellaneous expenses that they charge!

Red House

One day when I have saved up enough money to build our house and even more money to build a rest house, it would look like this. There would be a river or a beach behind or in front of it, but the house would be like this red house I saw during a wedding reception. It looks so much like home!
And I love the plants too! And I can imagine me and my husband sitting in front of the house and sipping coffee or wine and just marveling at how lucky we were in life! Now, that is one dream!

We Are Moving In...

to the dream house, but in a year, that is. But I guess it is a big step and we really need to have a year to prepare everybody in the family for the big move. As of this writing, we scraped plans to transfer the kids to a new school despite our disappointment at their current school. They will transfer again next year and I don't like the unnecessary stress of a new school this year. My sister will be on her last year in college next year and I think she can handle the travel and it will prepare her for when she starts working. There are still a lot of things we need for the house before we move in and we hope that a year is enough for us to save for it. We plan to have the ceiling done this December and the second floor in two years. As I said, this home is a work in progress and I am excited at the possibilities of what we can do with it!
